Library Media Center

Trevor has Library Media Centers in the Lower School and Middle & Upper School to serve students in a constantly advancing digital age. Their purpose is to cultivate children’s inherent love of literature and encourage students to become lifelong readers and effective users of information. In the complex landscape of print and digital media, it is imperative to teach students how to navigate and evaluate print and online resources, utilize new technology, and perform high quality, independent research.

Lower School Library

Trevor’s Lower School library program is a vibrant, integral part of learning at Trevor. Located at the building’s entrance, the library is bustling before and after school with families who stop in to share a book before school or to check out books to take home. In every Lower School class, Threes through 5th grade, students enjoy weekly library classes where they are exposed to a wide variety of literature, authors, and award-winning books. They listen to read alouds, participate in both mock and actual award committees, and browse the collection for books that appeal to them. The library curriculum is taught in conjunction with classroom research projects, so that what students learn in library is directly applicable to what they are tackling in their homerooms.

In our earliest grades, classes take place in our Book Nook, which houses a collection of 3,000 books selected to appeal to our youngest readers. Starting in 1st grade, library classes meet in our main library. The collection includes over 14,000 print and audio books, as well as numerous databases geared to elementary school students. These collections include a rich variety of books that will spark curiosity, appeal to myriad student interests, and reflect the diversity of our students and our city.

Middle & Upper School Library Media Center

The Middle & Upper School Library Media Center's primary goals are to expand and strengthen the love for reading that students gained in the Lower School, support student curiosity, and to give them the information literacy required to succeed in college and career. Students have access to a rich and diverse collection of more than 10,000 print publications, including fiction and non-fiction titles, over 15 online databases in various subjects that support the Trevor curriculum, over 5,000 eBooks, and Kindles, and access to audiobooks for texts read in their courses. The Library Media Specialist collaborates with faculty to incorporate these resources into classrooms while also focusing on research strategies, information literacy, and reading programs and events.
